Here we go!

Hello family, friends and anyone else reading this. My name is Taylor Haley and my brother Patrick is getting ready to begin a Bone Marrow Transplant at Duke. Patrick was born with an immune deficiency called Chronic Granulomatus Disease (CGD). CGD patients white cells do not function properly which can lead to life threatening infections. Both my sister and I were tested to be donors but unfortunately we were not matches for a transplant. Fortunately an unrelated donor was found to be a perfect match which is very exciting because until very recently, unrelated donors were out of the question...thank goodness for modern medicine! Patrick and my mom, Caroline, will make Durham home for about the next three months. My dad (Dan), sister (Mary) and I will be making frequent visits! The plan for Patrick is to be at the apartment with daily visits to the Bone Marrow Clinic.  He is more than optimistic about this journey and we are all so very thankful to have such a wonderful support system.  Stay tuned for updates as this life changing journey progresses!
